I don’t know whether to say “Welcome to my Planet!” or “Welcome to my Blog”, but either way you’ve made it, you’re here and I’m happy we get to talk. Honestly. Now it’s time to make it worth your while.
Stay til’ the end for a special surprise!
As I mentioned in my last post, I threw together two ugly Christmas outfits for you guys at the very last minute. So I’m just popping in to type up this post real quick, drop some pre-2017 inspiration, and scam my way into your hearts. Cheesy huh? lol
Anywho, allow me to introduce you to one of 2016’s MVPs, Joanne the Scammer. Many of you probably already know who she is, but in case you don’t, she’s a “liar, a scammer”. She loves “robbery and fraud”. Simply put, she’s “iconic”. And she’s one of the biggest characters to grace the internet in 2016. Joanne, among others, defined winning in 2016. From her red carpet appearances, features in reputable magazines, and collaborations with BIG NAME fashion brands and hair companies to her recent business venture of “Get Out of My Caucasian Home” welcome mats and co-starring in a “Thelma & Louise”-inspired short film, JOANNE laid 2016 to rest.
If her success has taught me one thing, it’s the importance of being yourself! Yes, Joanne is an alter-ego created by Branden Miller, but she’s still a part of who HE is. If we want to get technical, “alter ego” literally translates to “The Other I“. I studied Latin for 8 years (in high school and majored in college) so I love a good Latin lesson lol. Bet you didn’t know you were speaking Latin! I’ll even admit: in law school, I’m known as the “residential Latin scholar”. And I’m kinda proud to be that nerd, but that’s besides the point lol…
Joanne is not exclusive of Branden. She’s just a different side to Branden. Like Sasha Fierce to Beyonce. Like Roman to Nicki. Like Harlem shake to P. Diddy.
Lol yeahhh I went there! These alter egos are just that wild and fearless personality that most of us usually keep hidden from the world and our favorite celebs happen to put on display!
Before I started blogging, I was so scared to open up and share myself with the world. And all my fellow bloggers can relate, we all worried about what others would think, what they would say, whether we’d be liked, blah blah. You’ve heard me say it a million times before.
But I’m here to say:
Ladies, we ARE cancelling that fear moving forward. It’s DONE. Finito. A WRAP. And you’re going to have to tell that little voice in your head holding you back to SHUT. THE. HELL. UP.
Just think about it. You may have already taken that BIG leap into launching your blog or business, into branding and entrepreneurship, into self-promotion. You’ve HOPEFULLY done a ton of research about your niche. Maybe invested money into a couple of online classes to become better at your niche. Or you maybe even have a steady routine when it comes to working on your blog or business.
But have you actually FULLY committed yourself to your brand?! Have you got over that fear that holds you back? Are you “honestlyy, trulyy” sharing yourself and your work with others??
If you’re thinking, “Yup I share! If people would just click the link in my Instagram bio, they would see that I’ve SHARED links to my outfit and I’ve even SHARED a bit about my last/upcoming weekend plans. I definitely share”… girl, if THAT’S your answer, then you’re DEFINITELY missing the point.
I mean really sharing! Laying ALL your cards on the table.
If 2016 and 2017 are NOT as SHOOK as Gucci Mane’s face (see below), you are NOT playing the game right! You are NOT sharing out these cards properly! Caribbean Jaleesa would say, “You’re not sharing licks”.
And sidenote: Gucci also had an AMAZING 2016. Another MVP of the year.
But listen, I’m pulling out ALL the cards in my deck in 2017! I’m dishing out blow after blow, hit after hit, all the skips, reverses, draw two’s AND especially that WILD CARD.
And by going wild, I don’t mean switching up your style or getting into drag if that’s not what you’re into.
But I do mean giving this blog some personality! Letting myself go wild. Treating NC4OT as that wild, unseen alter ego/extension of myself. Allowing you guys to meet all of me. Bajan bred me. Latin scholar me. Wonderfully weird me. And we all have a little weird in us so I know I’m not alone!
Without realizing it, I created this Ugly Christmas look with a hint of alien undertones, a dash of Joanne’s fur fetish, and an “attitude on na-na”. This outfit is a product of what happens when I slam down my WILD (alter ego) CARD. And above all, I want to encourage you to do the same.
I plan to give you more and more content of value in the new year! And I am just too excited to SLEIGH!
So here’s the fun part! You’ve made it to the very end of this post!
