Monochromatic outfits instantly make you look fashionable! If you haven’t already created your own monochromatic look, what are you waiting for?! They’re perfect for the vertically challenged like myself! Not only will a monochromatic look polish an outfit, but it will, more importantly, elongate your figure! And I’m down for any tips & tricks that will make me appear tall! 😉

To achieve this look is very simple. Pick clothing items that are of the same color or shades of one color to wear from head to toe. *Extra brownie points* for mixing patterns, prints, and/or textures.

Becoming Sporty Spice

I created this look to try a trend I noticed going around at the moment, especially on Pinterest (follow my Pinterest!): faux fur & sneakers, a mixture of fancy & sporty – “sporty chic“. So naturally, this outfit makes me feel like Sporty Spice, giving me so much 90’s nostalgia.

I was initially attracted to this faux fur crop coat because the item picture and label read “Dark Green”. I’m a sucker for green as I happen to think it compliments darker skin tones. Upon examining customer reviews, I purchased this coat knowing that in fact the color would be a teal/darker blue; the color was still beautiful enough to persuade me to buy.

I then sought matching blue items. Underneath my coat, my top is actually a bomber jacket! I layered two pieces of outerwear. *Brownie points for mixing textures*! This NYC weather is so bipolar at the moment; ◊ Tip: layering is a great way to keep warm on those cold, bitter Spring days. I was even able to wear secret layers underneath the bomber jacket for added warmth.

Stay tuned for a post styling this bomber jacket!

In addition to the faux fur coat, the accessories and hairstyle also put the “chic” in “sporty chic“. ◊ Tip: An up-do always exudes elegance, gold rings give off “class”, and the style of earrings portrays 80s/90s vintage, rich vibes.

Blue jeans, of course, are a pretty casual piece. ◊ Tip: Be sure to cuff the bottom of the jeans to appear more sporty! Don’t make the mistake I made in these pictures! 😒

My light blue socks continue the all-blue theme! ◊ Tip: Make sure you commit to the monochromatic theme from head to toe!

And lastly, my sneakers, though dirt cheap and off-brand, are the perfect color! K-Mart may get a bad rep in the U.S., but in Australia, K-Mart’s shoe collection is on trend and pretty popular; Australian K-Mart = American Target.

I really love this look! As a fan of the 90s, one minute I was “spic[-ing] up your life”, and the next “throw[ing] shade if I can’t get paid” like Lil’ Kim.
