Hey readers! Welcome/welcome back to NC4OT! I’m your host, Leeyoncé…lol okay my name is not the easiest to Beyon-cize. I’ll just stick to Jaleesa.
Today’s look was inspired by Beyoncé’s “Blow” video, but shot at Coney Island, location of Beyoncé’s “XO” video! Lol. So I guess we’ll just say the whole shoot is Beyoncé inspired. On this day, my blogger boo D’mani and I decided we’d venture out to Coney for blog photos. So I have her to thank for these great photos! You can follow her on IG and Twitter! You can also keep up with her blog here! She’s literally one of my favorite people ever. And she’s super dope and stylish! Stay tuned for my collab with this beauty!
Traveling to Coney Island made me realize I hadn’t visited in years it seems! I had no idea they opened up a section for wall art and food trucks! These walls made the perfect backdrop for this fun outfit! Let’s talk about it…
About The Outfit
Like Beyoncé’s look in “Blow”, I wanted my outfit to be colorful, slightly neon, and 70s disco-inspired. Beyoncé wears a neon-colored American Apparel two-piece with two pigtails and roller skates.
You may already know I’m a big fan of pigtails, but for today’s look, I stuck to the same ponytail I’ve been wearing all week. It still gives off that disco vibe! I also decided to wear my Hashtag Kinky Hat by Ronke Raji this day. This is my second time wearing it on the blog and I’m still in love with it! It’s perfect for that discotheque feel and for natural hair ladies! Check out my first time wearing this visor here! It’s one of my most popular posts to date! With this visor, I definitely felt like a 70’s skater chick.
My neon dress was only $7 at Rainbow! I always say shopping at Rainbow is just like “thrifting” for gold. Search long enough and you’ll find a gem. This dress matched the theme of “Blow” perfectly without copying Beyoncé’s outfit exactly. You do NOT have to wear exactly what a celebrity wears to achieve a certain style! You can always improvise!
Moreover, unlike Beyoncé, I suck at rollerskating! I can barely move a couple of inches without falling. So roller skates are not exactly practical for my day to day lol. I substituted roller skates for flatforms and socks. I picked up these neon socks also while at Rainbow. And by the way, I teach you the importance of having socks in your wardrobe in 9 Extraordinary Fashion Staples for a Better Outfit. This outfit is testament to that article! Putting my socks on display made this look more unique! The neon green color matches the neon green stripes of the dress. And though it may be hard to tell pink stripes in these socks are exactly the same color pink as my dress. Flatforms, platforms, and chunky heels were all popular in the 70s! So wearing flatforms and socks keeps up with this “Blow” theme.
Lastly, I finished off this look with fun eyelashes and sunnies to match! The eyelashes have specs of glitter. I’ve linked them above. And my $6 heart-shaped sunnies are just too cute! They definitely have more of a 90’s-Clueless feel, but I couldn’t resist wearing them!
This outfit got me a lot of looks, stares, and compliments on the train and at Coney Island! You know it’s a good day when you’re turning heads and breaking necks! Lol!
But, actually this look even attracted another species…a pigeon! Earlier in the day, I foresaw that a pigeon will shit on me for the first time ever! At the end of this shoot, low and behold, bird shit. On my wrist. My New York, germaphobe personality was surprisingly calm about it and just cleaned it off. Maybe because I predicted it, maybe because it didn’t land on my outfit? Either way, I’ll take the good luck! I’m excited for NC4OT’s future!
